 Schwarzman Scholars Program

Schwarzman Scholars Program

The Schwarzman Scholars Program is curated to prepare young leaders to deepen understanding between China and the rest of the world. The Schwarzman Scholars is the first fully funded masters scholarship created to respond to the geopolitical landscape of the 21st Century. Whether in politics, business, or science, the success of future leaders around the world will depend upon an understanding of China’s role in global trends.

The pioneer Schwarzman Scholars were enrolled in 2016, the program allows the world’s best and brightest students to develop their leadership skills and professional networks through a one-year fully funded Master’s Degree at Tsinghua University in Beijing — one of China’s most reputable universities. Drawing on the best traditions of Tsinghua and top academic institutions around the world, the curriculum bridges the academic and professional worlds to educate students about leadership and China’s expanding role in the world.

Each new Schwarzman Scholar will join a global network of the world’s most talented young leaders, helping to build stronger connections between China and a rapidly changing world. Also, each Schwarzman Scholar will pursue a Masters in Global Affairs, working with an academic advisor to design an innovative academic plan that best suits his or her academic and professional goals.

Schwarzman Scholars was inspired by the popular Rhodes Scholarship, which was founded in 1902 to promote international understanding and peace and is designed to meet the challenges of the 21st century and beyond. Stephen A. Schwarzman, the co-founder, and chairman of Blackstone, personally contributed $100 million to launch the program. A $500 million fundraising campaign seeks to endow the program in perpetuity, so students may attend the program without concern for financial need. The $600 million endowment will support up to 200 scholars annually from the United States of America(USA), China, and around the world for a one-year fully funded Master’s Degree program at Tsinghua University in Beijing, one of China’s leading universities.
